Dental Technology & Comforts Advanced Quality in Blackwell

At Blackwell Dentistry, Dr. Neale and our entire staff work hard to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques, advancements, and technologies in the world of dentistry. After all, we want to give our patients and families the most successful results possible when it comes to their smiles! In particular, sedation dentistry is a big part of our practice. We’re very familiar with the trials and tribulations of dental phobia, and these effective techniques can help children and adults alike feel genuinely relaxed throughout their appointments.

If you’re interested in learning more about the modern tools we use, please keep reading below. You are also always welcome to contact our Blackwell, OK location if you’re ready to schedule a first visit or would like to talk to us directly. Experience state-of-the-art dentistry in a safe and comfortable setting with us.

TMJ Therapy

Do you experience severe jaw pain on a regular basis? Do you struggle to chew food properly or fully open and close your mouth? These are tell-tale signs of TMJ disorder, a potentially serious health problem that occurs when the joints that connect your lower jaw to the skull (the temporomandibular joints, or TMJ) are negatively affected by dysfunction. Please let our team know if the above symptoms are familiar to you – Dr. Neale can diagnose your condition and recommend therapy for correcting it, such as the use of a custom-made occlusal splint.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation comes in the form of medication that patients will take at a directed time before their appointment is scheduled to start. Once the effects begin, they should enter a deep state of relaxation while remaining awake enough to respond to any requests that Dr. Neale or our team members have. Patients (or their parents) will need to plan some downtime following the procedure and also arrange for an escort to bring them to and from Blackwell Dentistry.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide is usually referred to by another, funnier name – laughing gas! This very mild sedative technique is safe for all ages and can be useful if the patient needs just a little extra help feeling calm in the treatment chair. We’ll cover their nose with a small mask that administers the nitrous oxide. After a few minutes of breathing it in, you will likely feel lighter and happier. Some patients say that the room spins, or that time seems to go faster than normal. One of the biggest benefits of “laughing gas” is that the effects wear off very quickly after the mask is removed. Patients can return to work or school without delay in most cases.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is our strongest form of sedation here in Blackwell, and it is safe for children and adults alike. Instead of taking medication orally, we will administer the sedative to the patient intravenously (through a vein), which allows us to control the dosage more precisely for each unique person and minimize the risk of side-effects or complications.

Intraoral Camera

Intraoral cameras help Dr. Neale and the rest of our team not only better understand the dental problems our patients are facing, but also explain this information much more clearly to you and your family! It’s simple – we’ll pilot a camera-tipped wand through the mouth during a regular checkup, capturing high-resolution images that can be pulled up on a TV monitor in the room. You or your loved one’s smile will be on the big screen as a visual aid as we discuss any concerning findings, the effects of certain treatments, and more.

Gendex Panorex Digital X-Rays

X-rays are essential to quality dentistry because they allow our team to view damage and dysfunction that may be entirely hidden under the teeth and gums. Our Blackwell practice is proud to use digital radiography to create comprehensive, panoramic X-rays that help us understand every last detail of your oral health. They’re developed in seconds (no darkrooms needed) and stored in our computer system for easy access. Any radiation exposure is also kept to a very minimal level, which is much safer for patients of all ages.

KaVo OP3D Cone Beam 3D Imaging

Dr. Neale offers some services that are intricate in nature, such as surgical dental implant placement and root canal therapy. We don’t want to leave anything up to chance during these appointments, which is why our technological offerings include a state-of-the-art Cone Beam imaging system. By creating three-dimensional renderings of the patient’s teeth, jaw, and skull, we will be able to plan your treatment with exceptional precision, avoid possible pitfalls and complications, and ensure the highest chances of success.
